“Legros is a distinctly isolated phenomenon within the French printmaking; the Faustian element of his work approaches a very Germanic feeling” (Thieme/Becker, vol. 22, p. 574).
In 1863 Legros went to England where he remained for the rest of his life. Especially as a printmaker he became a significant influence on a whole generation of such English artists as Shannon, Strang, and Holroyd.
